Challenges

Spir Group lacked a tool that could provide continuous visibility and control over a complex and constantly evolving attack surface. This was the core need that Active Focus addressed.

Before implementing Active Focus, Spir faced a growing challenge: the organisation manages a large ecosystem of services, integrations, and domain-specific systems, while simultaneously developing and improving new products. As a result, the attack surface changes continuously, often faster than traditional controls can keep up with.

With so many moving parts, maintaining complete visibility became difficult. Changes in code, new integrations, and ongoing adjustments could introduce vulnerabilities without being immediately detected. Periodic penetration testing offered valuable insight, but it only captured a snapshot in time. It did not provide the continuity or response speed Spir Group required.

Why IT Security is fundamental for Spir Group

For Spir Group, IT security is a prerequisite for trust. IT security means protecting the foundation of their entire business, and ensuring that customers, partners, and authorities can rely on Spir Group every single day.

The organisation manages critical data from the national Cadastre (Matrikkel) and Land Register (Grunnbok), and its customers – from real-estate agents and banks to public-sector entities – depend on this information being accurate, available, and protected. Since Spir’s data underpins property transactions, decision-support processes, and market insights, the company must be able to demonstrate that integrity and confidentiality are maintained at all times.

Staying Ahead in an AI-Driven Threat Landscape

Spir Group delivers data and software solutions to the entire property sector, spanning real-estate, banking, insurance, surveying, construction, and property development.

The biggest challenge they see ahead is that the threat landscape is changing far faster than before, driven by the increasing use of AI. Attacks that once required high expertise and significant time can now be automated, amplified, and mass-produced. This enables potential attackers to scan, map, and test an organisation’s attack surface at a scale and speed that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

For an organisation like Spir Group, with many services and integrations, this means the risk no longer lies primarily in “the big and obvious,” but in the small, rapid changes: a new integration, a misconfigured service, an unexpected exposure – all things AI-powered tools can discover long before traditional security controls detect them.

Their biggest concern is therefore not whether someone will look for weaknesses, but how quickly they can do so. In an AI-accelerated threat landscape, continuous, up-to-date visibility becomes the most important countermeasure. It requires staying one step ahead, not only in technology, but in monitoring, risk management, and the ability to react early.

Proactive Security with Active Focus

Active Focus provides the continuity and visibility Spir Group previously lacked. As their attack surface shifts from week to week, Active Focus ensures they always have an updated and realistic view of risk. The service continuously monitors new changes, integrations, and external exposure – and alerts them whenever something requires action.

“We see Spir Group as an ideal customer – exactly the type of organisation that gains the most from Active Focus. They already have mature cyber security teams across the group, and they’re a fast-moving tech company. Collaborating with teams that work this systematically and professionally makes the partnership both valuable and impactful.”
